Challenge: Making Subjective Wellbeing Data Transparent and Accessible

he University of Malta, in partnership with the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society and the National Statistics Office – Malta, aimed to increase government transparency in Malta by providing accessible, real-time insights into the country’s subjective wellbeing data. Traditional static reports could not effectively communicate complex wellbeing indicators such as happiness, life satisfaction, and social connections to the general public, researchers, and policymakers.

To support data-driven policymaking and public engagement, a modern interactive wellbeing dashboard was needed—one that would present these multi-dimensional wellbeing metrics in a clear, bilingual format accessible to all users.

Our Approach: Designing Interactive, Public-Facing Wellbeing Dashboards with Looker Studio

  • Raised public awareness of wellbeing beyond economic measures

  • Boosted civic engagement with accessible, interactive data tools

  • Enabled policymakers with real-time, reliable wellbeing insights

  • Strengthened collaboration between academia, government, and civil society

  • Positioned Malta as a leader in using subjective wellbeing for policy-making

Neural AI developed an interactive wellbeing dashboard for Malta using Google Looker Studio, offering real-time visualizations of key subjective wellbeing indicators like happiness and social connectedness. The bilingual platform (Maltese and English) is mobile-friendly and designed for easy public access.

Working closely with the University of Malta and National Statistics Office, we ensured accurate, up-to-date data presented through clear, dynamic charts. This public data visualization tool enhances government transparency and supports data-driven policymaking by making complex wellbeing data accessible and actionable for policymakers, researchers, and citizens alike.
