Shoppers looking to save on essentials have no reliable tool to compare prices across supermarkets, while analysts and retailers lack actionable pricing intelligence.

This gap in transparency creates inefficiencies for consumers, businesses, and policy makers alike. Our goal was to create a scalable, AI-powered grocery price monitoring system that could deliver live food price comparisons, track price fluctuations by item, and analyze store-level pricing differences across Malta’s leading supermarkets. By leveraging big data, AI-driven web scraping, and advanced NLP, we set out to build a tool that transforms fragmented food pricing data into real-time, structured, and insightful analytics.

To address inconsistent pricing across grocery stores in Malta, we engineered a robust AI-powered grocery price monitoring system. Leveraging advanced web scraping, natural language processing (NLP), and big data analytics, the platform continuously collects food item prices from multiple supermarkets. Using GPT-based models, it intelligently reconciles product names that differ across stores, ensuring standardized, accurate comparisons.Once cleaned and processed, the data is funneled into a centralized big data pipeline, where we apply real-time analytics, predictive modelling, and AI-driven price elasticity calculations. This empowers both consumers and retailers with a clear view of pricing trends, store-to-store variances, and future cost projections—enabling smarter, data-informed decisions and competitive pricing strategies.
