The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights in Malta needed to modernize how it communicated social benefits and welfare expenditure to the public. Historically, the Ministry relied on static formats like PDFs and spreadsheets, which made it difficult for the public, media, and policymakers to explore data or understand trends in a meaningful way.
In an age of open data and digital governance, this approach no longer met expectations. The Ministry aimed to provide real-time, interactive access to data about pensions, child benefits, disability support, and other social spending categories. The solution needed to be accessible, mobile-friendly, and easy to update, while also aligning with Malta’s national digital strategy for improved government transparency.
