Kurt Abela

Kurt Abela is the Co-Founder and Technical Director of Neural AI, leading the technical vision and execution behind every AI solution the company delivers. His background in software engineering, combined with a relentless focus on scalable and innovative AI technologies, means Neural AI's technical output consistently meets the highest engineering standards — from prototype through to production.

Kurt holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Malta, where his doctoral research focused on natural language processing for low-resource languages, with a particular emphasis on Maltese. This foundational work positioned him as one of Malta's pioneers in developing data-driven Maltese chatbots and laid the academic groundwork for Neural AI's NeuroMaltese product — a Maltese-language AI system serving government and enterprise clients across the island.

His specialisation in NLP spans both the research frontier and production engineering. Kurt has extensive experience managing and mentoring development teams, overseeing large technical projects across chatbot development, computer vision, data engineering, and machine learning. He leads all technical delivery at Neural AI — architecture decisions, development processes, and deployment standards — ensuring every solution is built to scale and built to last.
